DO you know the man who always makes us
proud in his every success? Do you know the man who started from a single dream
and is now luckily reaping the fruits of his hard works? Surely, you know him!
He is the man who fights not only for the glory inside the ring but also fights
for the Filipino nation. Yes, he is! He is the man who emerged as champion to
everyone’s heart as he walks in honor and glory; nonetheless, the higher and
greater the achievements he received, the humbler he became.
He was a native of General
Santos, Cagayan de Oro. At his young age, he already witnessed the hardships of
life. His family started as simple one, very far from what kind of life he and
his family have now. But he did not stop from dreaming of having better life.
Time pushed him to start his career on boxing. From his humble start as boxer,
he emerged as good and strong one.
His fights with big names in
the ring signalized his conquest to fame and honor. From his fight with Barrera
to his defeat over Morales, he became more determined and rose as better boxer.
He again met Morales for the second time. He defeated him with his forceful
fists. On the next battles, he defended his title over other big names like
Oscar dela Joya, Ricky Hatton, and recently, he frustrated Manuel Cotto. He was
then declared as the best boxer of the world because of having 7 world titles
on 7 different categories. He is the first boxer to achieve this award, a
really pound-for-pound king.
Because of this achievement,
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo awarded him the medal of the Order
of Sikatuna, the highest prize the Republic of the Philippines can give to him
on his achievement.
On the month of November, his
name was once again listed with the big names of Sports with Tiger Woods,
Michael Jordan, Venus and Serena Williams and Michael Phelps. He was chosen by
the Time Magazine Asia as the cover of their magazine issue that was published
on some parts of the world.
See? Something to be proud
of!
Yes, that I what his success
reached so far. From his simple beginning up to his continuous success, he is
really incomparable. It is heart lifting to be a Filipino, to be part of his
career. Filipinos, you once again thrilled the world and you must not be
ashamed of having that race- the race of strong and resilient.
